Court Appointed Special Advocates

One child. One voice.
A future that changes everything.

More than 400,000 children are in foster care in the United States. A CASA volunteer is the one steady adult who shows up, learns their story, and speaks up for them in court.

  • 30+ hours of training included
  • No legal background required
  • 10–15 hrs per month

What is CASA?

A trained volunteer who stands beside a child in foster care.

CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate. A judge assigns one volunteer to one child — and that volunteer becomes the consistent presence in a system that often moves the child through many homes, schools, and caseworkers.

As a CASA, you spend time with the child, get to know their teachers and family, and write a report to the judge with one job in mind: recommend what is best for this child. Studies show children with a CASA are more likely to find a safe, permanent home — and less likely to re-enter foster care.

Why volunteer

The difference one person can make.

Research is clear: a CASA changes a child's path through the system. And volunteers tell us it changes them, too.

  • 1 in 2

Children without a CASA stay longer in foster care.

Kids with a CASA spend less time in the system and are more likely to find a safe, permanent home.

  • 1 voice

You become the consistent adult in their life.

Caseworkers and foster homes change. As a CASA, you stay — the one person who knows their whole story.

  • 10–15 hrs

A real commitment that fits real life.

Most volunteers spend ten to fifteen hours a month — visiting the child, talking to their team, and writing for court.

  • No cost

Training is free. Support is constant.

You get 30+ hours of training, a supervisor for every case, and a community of advocates beside you.

How can you not do something? These children are part of our community — and they need someone who shows up.
